Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Carryr, digital estate planning, and how we protect your assets.
About Carryr
What is Carryr?
Carryr is a digital executor service. We help you securely document your digital assets, including cryptocurrency, gaming inventories, domains, and online accounts, along with step-by-step instructions for what should happen to each one. When the time comes, a verified executor follows your instructions to transfer, sell, or close each asset.
Is Carryr a law firm?
No. Carryr does not provide legal advice and is not a substitute for a will or legal estate plan. We provide the infrastructure to securely store, organize, and execute instructions for digital assets. We recommend working with a qualified solicitor for your broader estate planning needs.
How is Carryr different from writing passwords in a notebook?
A notebook with passwords creates a security risk while you are alive and lacks the structure an executor needs after you pass. Carryr encrypts your access details at rest, provides platform-specific execution instructions, and creates an immutable audit trail of every action taken. Your information is only accessible through verified processes.
What types of digital assets can I protect?
Any digital asset with monetary or sentimental value: cryptocurrency wallets (hardware and software), gaming inventories (CS2, Fortnite, Roblox), domain names, social media accounts, cloud storage, email accounts, digital storefronts, subscriptions, and more.
Security and encryption
How does Carryr encrypt my data?
We use AES-256-GCM encryption with per-item key derivation using HKDF. Each vault item gets its own encryption key derived from a master key combined with your unique user ID and item ID. Even if someone accessed the database directly, the data would be computationally impossible to decrypt without the master key.
Can Carryr staff see my private vault details?
Not during normal operations. Access to encrypted vault data requires a "break-glass" procedure with a documented justification, and every access is permanently logged in an immutable audit trail. Most staff only see non-secret metadata like asset categories and labels.
What is the audit trail?
Every action taken on your vault, whether by you, your executor, or Carryr staff, is recorded in an immutable log. This includes who accessed what, when, and why. The audit trail creates accountability and transparency throughout the entire lifecycle of your digital estate.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored on Cloudflare's global infrastructure with encryption at rest. We use Cloudflare Workers and D1 for compute and storage, which provides low-latency access and strong security guarantees.
How it works
What is the onboarding process?
First, you create an account and book a free consultation. During the consultation, we walk you through the process and understand your needs. After the consultation, you choose a plan and your encrypted vault is activated immediately. You can then start adding assets and instructions at your own pace.
What happens when my executor needs to act?
Your executor contacts Carryr with the required documentation (death certificate, probate letters, or other verification as required by your jurisdiction). Once verified, they are granted time-limited access to your vault and execution instructions. Every step they take is logged in the audit trail.
Can I choose what happens to each asset?
Yes. For each vault item, you can specify an execution preference: direct transfer to a beneficiary, managed sale with proceeds distributed, preservation/archival, or account closure. You can also add detailed notes and step-by-step instructions specific to each asset.
Can I update my vault after setting it up?
Absolutely. You can add, edit, or remove vault items at any time. We recommend reviewing your vault regularly, especially when you acquire new digital assets or when values change significantly.
Pricing and billing
How much does Carryr cost?
We offer monthly (US$49/mo) and annual (US$499/yr, saving about 17%) plans. Both include full access to every feature, including unlimited vault items, AES-256 encryption, and the immutable audit trail.
Can I pay with cryptocurrency?
Yes. We accept cryptocurrency via Coinbase Commerce for the annual plan. We believe in the digital assets we help protect, so we are proud to accept crypto as a payment option.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Monthly subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. Your vault remains accessible until the end of your billing period.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your encrypted vault data is retained for 90 days after cancellation. You can reactivate your account during this period. After 90 days, data is permanently deleted.
Legal and compliance
Does Carryr replace a will?
No. Carryr complements your existing estate plan by handling the digital-specific aspects that traditional wills were not designed for. We recommend including a digital assets clause in your will and appointing an executor who can work with our service.
Is Carryr available in my country?
Carryr is currently focused on Australian customers, but our service can be used by anyone. Digital asset transfer processes vary by platform, not by jurisdiction. For jurisdiction-specific legal questions, consult a local solicitor.
How do you verify executor identity?
Executor verification follows a documented process that includes identity verification, documentation review (death certificates, probate letters, letters of administration), and confirmation of executor authority. The specific requirements depend on your jurisdiction.
